Grounding with Mats

Natural earthing, or walking on the ground with bare feet is a method of grounding ourselves by connecting to the earth.

The earth carries a slightly negative electrical charge. When you walk barefoot on the earth the charge is transferred to your body. These negatively charged free electrons work as antioxidants which neutralize harmful free radicals. It can improve sleeping, reduce inflammation and boost the immune system.

Earthing devices, by a company called Earthing, were popular ten years ago. Today we can use grounding mats to achieve the benefits of earthing. The grounding mat is particularly beneficial in areas where it is hard to go outside in inclement weather.

The mat can be on the floor where you rest bare feet.  Or place it on a desk and rest your bare arms.

Hooga is the provider we are trying. Their mats are made of vegan leather infused with conductive carbon, they are soft and non-slip.  The one we are testing is 24” x 16” and has a 15-foot grounding wire. Snap the grounding wire onto the button for it on the mat and then plug the wire into a grounded electrical outlet – the grounding port, or the little round hole in the electrical socket. It is important to test the ground of the socket you are using an outlet checker to make certain the outlet you are using is fully grounded.
