This pose is simply laying comfortably on your back on the floor or on a firm bed, legs up the wall and butt up against the base of the wall. A rolled-up cushion or blanket under the pelvis can help with comfort and body flow.
This pose is useful for a number of topics. It helps with
- circulation as it helps blood and lymphatic fluid flow. It therefore helps control blood pressure and varicose veins;
- stress and anxiety by activating the parasympathetic nervous system. This relaxes the nervous system and the body;
- digestive problems and constipation.
It also gently stretches the hamstrings as your butt and legs are against the wall. If you use a support under the pelvis you stretch the front of your torso also.
I have done this after flying in an airplane to restore my energy and allow my body to relax from sitting still for so long.
