Red Light Therapy

Red light therapy (“RLT”) is known to help skin, muscle tissue, and other parts of the body heal. By exposing skin to the low level of red or near-infrared light a part of the cells, the mitochondria, absorb it and make more energy. This can help cell repair and health.

There are red light saunas (see our prior post on the topic), lamps, lasers, wearable devices and panels of various sizes and strengths. It does not hurt or burn the skin as it is a very low level of heat.

As with so many products, some brands claim to be more than they are in reality. And there are quite a few brands.

Hooga is a brand we like for panels. A doctor friend recommended them, our friends like them, the price is right and they are transparent about their technology.

Lumaflex, an FDA approved product at least partly funded by an Indiegogo campaign was included in Time magazine’s top 100 products of the year. We have had a difficult time finding the product specs. In addition, at $689 we find it pricey relative to Hooga.

While we do not see the references, Lumaflex’s Indigogo campaign claims faster muscle recovery, joint and muscle pain relief, improved blood circulation, improved skin health, stress reduction and accelerated healing of wounds and injuries.

Others say that it can help hair loss, dementia, osteoarthritis, tendinitis and improve wrinkles.

We have used red light sauna therapy to boost our immune system, to clear the effects of rheumatoid arthritis and to clear cell respiration. This includes clearing the lymph system and helping optimize circulation.

Make sure you protect your eyes, do not look directly into the lights to avoid possible retinal damage. The most important thing to be aware of to avoid toxicity is the duration and frequency of use.
