Why Use a Jade Roller?

Jade rollers, made from solid jade for use on the face, have been around since the 17th century. They come in various colors with green, pink, and white being the most popular.

Jade has long been used in traditional Chinese medicine for its purifying properties and its ability to heal and restore skin. It is beneficial for lymphatic drainage through the body and for facial massage. Jade rollers

  • decreases puffiness
  • minimizes lines
  • makes your daily serums more effective via penetration
  • facilitates facial massage, exercises the facial muscles
  • increases facial circulation
  • gives you a glow
  • breaks up stagnation in the lymphatic system.
  • reduces puffiness and blemishes
  • can reduce tension

While we prefer jade, there are also quartz and jasper rollers. Quartz amplifies good, bad or indifferent and jasper grounds and brings in minerals.

Most rollers have one larger stone that rolls well on the larger areas of the face such, i.e., the cheeks, jaw and forehead and a smaller stone for harder to reach places such as under eyes and the mouth area. Some just have one roller.

PROCESS

Use gentle pressure to roll one side of your body or face at a time from the center outward. Pass over the same patch of skin 3-6 times, always moving from the center of your face outward.

Start at your chest just beneath your collarbone. From your chest, move up to the neck, chin/jawline, cheeks. For under the eye and eyelid use the small end of the roller and very gently move from the inner corner of your eye out to the temple. For the eyebrow switch back to the larger side and roll out and down, following the contour of your brow bone). For the forehead start in the middle and roll out.  Do the same on the other side of your face.

At least one of us also rolls upward on the forehead, starting at the eyebrows. For the “concentration” lines between the eyebrows, rolling up on the spot between that is just above the eyebrows releases the culprit muscles.

The lymphatic drainage points near the neck and face are near the ear, down the neck. To direct the lymphatic system to draining, end each roll with a little downward swoop. Just a little one, not one that encourages the skin downward.

The whole process should take two to four minutes, depending on how many passes and how many areas of the body and face you are covering.

PRE & POST ROLL

Refrigerating the roller reduces swelling by shrinking blood vessels. Use on clean skin. If you choose to apply additional serum or moisturizer prior to rolling the product will further penetrate the skin. When finished, clean the roller with warm, soapy water.

Go ahead, get your glow on.
