I recently listened to an MD comment that he likes to start his day with a glass of celery juice. He noted that it helps to detox the body first thing in the morning. I have not owned a juicer since they were large and clunky, did not ever use it much. I thought celery juice in the morning sounded like a positive and that it could be a good way to increase the veggies consumption for someone I know.
I tried it and realized once again that juicing is not for me (celery juice still sounds a positive, just not for me at this time).
The inputs:
| Topic | Juiced Food | Whole Food |
| Fiber | Removed. Without the fiber the natural sugars are absorbed quickly, potentially spiking blood sugar | Intact |
| Sugar Level | Higher to High | Natural given fiber intact |
| Satiation Level | Lower = might consume more food than need | |
| Nutrient Level | Lower | Intact |
| Liver | If regularly consumed in excess the sugar level can strain the liver | |
| Digestion | Easier on digestion for those who have trouble digesting high fiber foods | |
| Absorption | Faster – may be helpful after workouts or when ill for example | |
| Hydration | Can be high: cucumber, celery, citrus have a high water content + electrolyes |
Happy Choosing.
